A Qwacky Tale About the Birth of the University of Oregon’s New Hayward Stadium
Have you ever had one of those experiences where you know that institutions are feeding you a big line of BS? This is what drove me to record and preserve this story, which dates back to before when I began writing my hockey stuff. I did this essay in 2018 and then added a follow-up part in 2024.
With the 2026 NCAA season kicking off tomorrow, I finally decided to post this on my hockey site, via a backdoor page, so people don’t get confused with what my website is mainly about.
One name keeps coming to mind as I write these words: a writer from the Oregonian newspaper who, throughout this entire process, struck me as the only journalist who persistently challenged what was going on. Everybody else, it seems, just played along.
Props to you, Ken Goe.
